The scientific library of the zoo contains more than 10 thousand printed editions collected during the years of the zoo existence. The proceedings on zoology of the beginning of century; an extensive selection of the literature of 30-50th on the parasites of wild animals – the heritage of the former laboratory helminthology; classical works and textbooks of last years, a lot of foreign editions and, certainly, most complete selection of publications issued by the zoo are stored here. The zoo receives native magazines on zoology ("Zoological magazine", "Abstract magazine") and many periodic editions which are let out by foreign zoos. The fund of library regularly replenishes with the current special literature. Two significant private collections – selection of the editions of zoos of the world assembled for many years by S.M.Kudryavtsev, and one of the largest in our country of private collections of zoological literature – the library of the professor V.E.Flint were transferred recently to the library of the zoo. Since all these editions will be put into the catalogues and become accessible to readers, the funds of the Moscow zoo library will increase almost on third. The constant readers of library – about hundred specialists of the zoo, receive here literature and have the possibility to make an order to the Interlibrary loan system in case of absence of the necessary book in the library. The work on creation of the computer catalogue of the library has begun and while be finished will be accessible to the users of Internet. Electronic versions of some our publications are available to copy from these files: Files RIPP **.ZIP (two last digits in a title – year) contain " Information on Moscow Zoo's Activities " for appropriate year. Now there are volumes of 1996, 1997. Files SCIEN*.ZIP (the last digits of a title – number of the release) contain " Scientific researches in zoological parks ". There are releases 5, 6 and 9. Files ZOOS **.ZIP (two last digits in a title – year) contain "Informational Materials on the Collections of the Zoological Institutions " – no one electronic version is present. now Besides file GERBILS.ZIP contains the book, "Gerbils: management and demography different species in captivity" which was published at the zoo. In the future the accessible electronic versions of publications of a zoo will be enlarged permanently.
