Sea lions (ZALOPHUS CALIFORNIANUS) (OTARIIDAE) occupy a large and deep basin.
The Pinnipedia are close relatives with the order Carnivora but they are designed for aquatic life. Sea lions are skillful divers and swimmers, their body is streamlined with limbs modified into flippers. As all pinnipeds they are carnivorous and the diet includes primarily a variety of fish. Sea lions are linked to the land especially during breeding period when they form large breeding colonies on coasts of ocean islands. Our sea lions belong to the rare subspecies known from California.
The special gallery with windows looking into the basin allows watching sea lions swimming under the surface. Recently the pair of sea lions in Moscow zoo has given birth to one young.
