In the next enclosure three species represent fauna of Australia.

EmuEmu (DROMAIUS NOVAEHOLLANDIAE) (DROMAIIDAE) resembles an ostrich but they are not close relatives. These birds are very interesting as domestic animals they are breeding on special- farms where both their eggs and meat are utilizing. Emu's layings are rather great (sometimes more than 20 eggs from several females). Males usually take part in hatching and bringing up of nestlings.

black swanThe black swans (CYGNUS ATRATUS) (ANATIDAE) occurin lakes and bogs of Australia. In contrast to other swans, they nest in colonies and the nests are made of marsh plants and are located on small islands or on water. The clutch size ranges from 5 to 7 dirty white eggs, the hatching lasts 39-40 days.
Black swans are easily tamed, they are usual decorative birds in Europe parks.
In the Moscow zoo the black swans have appeared more than 90 years ago. In November 1932 they have nested for the first time. Since 1942 they are kept in the open enclosure and their reproduction is generally concentrated during spring month. Now about 10 black swans are kept in the Moscow zoo.

Kangaroo
Kangaroo is another wellknown inhabitant of Australia. Bennett's wallaby (MACROPUS RUFOGRISEUS FRUTICA) (MACROPODIDAE) are successfully keeping and breeding in the Moscow zoo. In the wild they are found in the south of Australia. Bennett's wallabies lasily go through Moscow winter and only in the coldest days they are moved to a warm enclosure.
