Polar bears (URSUS MARITIMUS) (URSIDAE) are very popular among visitors of the Moscow zoo. Their spacious enclosure is arranged with special glass windows which allow to observe animals swimming, diving and playing in the water. Polar bears are the largest terrestrial predators. Body length is up to three metres and weight is about 1000 kg for males. Polar bears are very powerful animals. Preying for seals they can catch the seal and pull it out of water through the small hole in the ice.

In captivity the diet of polar bear consists primarily of fish, they also eat meat and bread.
