Goat Hill


markhor An artificial rock for mountain ungulates is quite near the pond of "New territory", it is named "Goat Hill". Most remarkable of the inhabitants of this rock is markhor (CAPRA FALCONERI) (BOVIDAE). It inhabits Asian mountains where lives at medium to high elevations around the tree line. Its horns are sharp-keeled and twisted into a spiral. These goats in herds. There is a small herd in the Moscow zoo. Every spring females give birth to some young.

Some birds live in specially isolated enclosures of "Goat Hill". The most beautiful and noticeable of them are pheasants.
The true silver pheasant (LOPHURA NYCTHEMERA NYCTHEMERA) (PHASIANIDAE) inhabits Southeast Asia, it is distinguished with a lengthy white tail. The pheasants, as well as their close relatives – wild hens, live in the wild in dense scrubs. The nestlings are highly precocious.
