Moscow zoo is also proud of the group of cheetahs (ACINONYX JUBATUS) (FELIDAE). These graceful animals inhabit African savannah. Cheetahs are the fastest mammals. Their maximum speed is reported to reach about 110 km/hr while chasing the prey. Cheetahs have slim body and long legs with partly retractile claws. Their paws look like those of wolves and hunting dogs rather than those of other cats, while their rounded head resembles a cat's one.
For a long time cheetahs are successfully kept and regularly bred in the Moscow zoo.
