Common squirrel monkeys (SAIMIRI SCIUREUS) (CEBIDAE) belong to the same family, as capuchins. They are found in forests of Central and South America. In contrast to capuchins a tail of this monkey is not prehensile. Common squirrel monkeys form large groups, their size ranges from 10 up to 100 individuals (and even up to several hundreds – in Amazonian rainforests). Normally groups are of 30-40 individuals and are composed of females with youngs and males during mating season. Then males move to the peripherals of the group's territory. Squirrel monkeys don't form permanent pairs. The pregnancy lasts about 25 weeks. The newborn clings to the back of the mother for the first month after birth and becomes independent when 1 year old. Non-breeding females and youngs of the previous year usually take care of baby, while their mothers are feeding.
