cassowaryDouble-wattled cassowary (CASUARIUS CASUARIUS) (CASUARIIDAE) is a close relative of Australian emu. As well as other running birds double-wattled cassowary has strong callous legs. A kick of such a leg can seriously wound and even kill the man. In contrast to African ostrich cassowary, as well as emu has three fingers on the legs.

Cassowaries inhabit jungles in the south of New Guinea. The bright colouration of their neck and head resembles the feathers of the turkey-cock male.
