A set of enclosures for smaller and middle cats borders with the giraffe's enclosure. Snow leopard and lynx are being kept there for a long time. Several years ago these enclosures were reconstructed and enlarged. Now their inhabitants have opportunity to shelter in special hollows and behind artificial rocks. As a result the wild cats, for example this lynx (FELIS LYNX) (FELIDAE) became calmer and behave more naturally.
Snow leopard (PANTHERA UNCIA) is another representative of FELIDAE. It inhabits high mountains of Central Asia, where it ambushes ungulates in rocky areas in summer and moves following its preys to mountain forests in winter. Its diet consists mainly of goats, sheep and deer. The fur of snow leopard is very long and dense, the tail is long and fluffy. The species is classified as endangered by the IUCN. In the Moscow zoo the offspring was obtained for several times.
