A very famous in the Moscow zoo construction named "Animals Island" is situated on the "New" territory. The outside enclosures of "Island" were created for maintaining of various large predators and they are separated from visitors of the zoo by deep ditches.
"Animals Island" was constructed in 1926. The project was worked out by K.Gippius in accordance with the lasts achievements of zoo architecture. Since then principles of animals' maintaining have received further development, but the "Animals Island" is saved practically in invariable appearance, as a historical memorial of our zoo.
