Siberian tigers
Among other inhabitants of "Animals Island" Siberian tigers (PANTHERA TIGRIS ALTAICA) (FELIDAE) are distinguished by visitors. All the year round they stay in open enclosures, as winters in south-eastern Siberia and Manchuria are not less severe, than in Moscow.

The Siberian subspecies of a tiger is one of most rare and it classified as endangered by the IUCN and the USDI and is on appendix 1 of the CITES. The EEP Studbook for this subspecies have been compiled. The Moscow zoo participate in the actively aimed at tigers' conservation in captivity. In the Moscow zoo tigers are breeding well, and one can admire the playing young every year. It is estimated that wild populations of tigers now are smaller in numbers than populations maintaing in captivity. Perhaps, zoos activities will make a great contribution to conservation of the Siberian tigers.
