This extremely beautiful, flower-like animal is a predator belonging to the subclass of 6-radial corals. Sea anemones (ACTINIARIA) have cylindrical body with pedal disk for attachment to a substratum. The mouth opening is surrounded by numerous tentacles with stinging cells for capturing small animals – the main diet of anemone. Anemones cause serious burns of the skin of larger animals and man.
The sedentary polychaetes (Serpula sp) (POLYCHAETA), live in rigid calcareous tubes. On the top they expand featherlike gills to capture food and gas exchange. These "feathers" are very sensitive and quickly disappear in the tube being troubled.
