Anubis baboons (PAPIO CYNOCEPHALUS ANUBIS) (CERCOPITHECIDAE) inhabit open woodlands, savannahs, grasslands and rocky hills in Africa from Guinea up to Ethiopia. Adult males are considerably larger than the females, their weight is 25-30 kg. Their oblong muzzles are similar to those of dogs.

Baboons are diurnal and terrestrial. They can climb trees or cliffs for sleeping. These monkeys are omnivorous but sometimes they behave as predators and hunt for small mammals, hares, young antelopes. They eat up their preys completely except for fragments of the largest bones and skulls of antelopes. Males get the best food, while females and juveniles receive the remainders.

Troop size is 30-80 or more individuals. Such troop is led by a dominant male. He has a great authority and can take away any food from other members of his group. The males and females form different dominance systems, but hierarchy among females is not so evident. It's interesting that social ranks are inherited, as offspring of dominant females is more courageous and have more chances to achieve high social rank in future. All females always live in units, while males may either live solitary for some time or maintain associations with another unit.
